Privacy Policy

About GSI

Global Sector Intelligence is an invite-only professional network connecting individuals and organisations across sectors and markets for research, insight, expertise, introductions and selected opportunities. GSI does not charge membership fees. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store and protect personal information relating to prospective members, members, website visitors and other individuals who interact with GSI.

Information we collect

We may collect information including your name and contact details; organisation and professional role; professional profiles, websites and links you provide; invitation and membership information; communications and preferences; information you voluntarily provide through GSI forms, correspondence or the GSI portal; limited technical information associated with use of our website and systems; relevant professional information obtained from publicly available sources; and relevant information upon request. We do not intentionally collect information that is unnecessary for operating the GSI network.

How we obtain information

Most information is provided directly by you when you accept an invitation, submit a form, use the GSI portal or communicate with us. We may also use relevant professional information that is already publicly available, including information published on corporate websites, professional profiles, public registers or links supplied to us.

We will not contact third parties to obtain information about you without your explicit permission. Where personal information is obtained from public or other third-party sources and retained by us, we will provide the information required under applicable data-protection law within the required period unless a lawful exemption applies. ICO guidance currently requires privacy information normally to be provided within one month where information has been obtained from another source.

How we use information

We may use personal information to administer invitations and GSI membership; operate and secure the GSI network and portal; maintain member and professional records; facilitate research, sector intelligence and collaboration; identify potentially relevant expertise, relationships or opportunities; communicate with you about your participation in GSI; facilitate introductions where appropriate; respond to enquiries; improve our systems and services; comply with legal and regulatory obligations; and send optional research, updates and announcements where you have agreed to receive them.

Lawful basis

We will not use your information for materially unrelated purposes without an appropriate lawful basis. We will not share your information or data with third parties without your explicit permission to do so, pertaining to opportunities or in the event that GSI contacts you in order to connect you with a project or third party. Depending on the activity, we may process personal information on the basis of legitimate interests, consent, or legal obligations. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it at any time. UK data-protection law requires organisations to identify an appropriate lawful basis for processing and explain it in their privacy information.

Member visibility and sharing

Joining GSI does not automatically make your personal information visible to other members. We will not publish or make your profile, contact details or other personal information available to members of the network without your permission or another appropriate lawful basis. Where you agree to participate in an introduction, working group, research project, committee or other GSI activity, relevant information may be shared with the participants involved. We do not sell personal information.

Service providers and infrastructure

We may use carefully selected third-party providers for limited functions such as website hosting, form collection, security and infrastructure. Our policy is to transfer relevant membership information from temporary third-party collection systems to GSI-controlled infrastructure and remove it from those third-party systems within 30 days, where technically supported. Any data backups are held locally, and are not shared with third parties without explicit consent. Where providers maintain encrypted backups or deletion cycles outside our direct control, information may remain inaccessible within those systems until ordinary secure deletion is completed. We require providers handling personal information on our behalf to provide appropriate data-protection and security safeguards.

International transfers

Primary GSI portal and member data is stored on infrastructure controlled by us using secure hosting providers such as Hetzner or Amazon Web Services (AWS). We aim to keep primary GSI member information within UK or European data-hosting environments. Where information is transferred internationally, we will use safeguards required by applicable UK data-protection law.

Data retention

We keep personal information only for as long as it is reasonably required for the purpose for which it was collected, including operating the network, maintaining relevant professional relationships, complying with legal requirements and respecting communication preferences. Information that is no longer required will be deleted or anonymised. Our retention practices are reviewed periodically.

Marketing and communications

Operational communications relating to your invitation, membership, portal access or participation in GSI are separate from optional promotional communications. Where required, optional Stone Maven or GSI research, updates and announcements will only be sent in accordance with your stated preferences and applicable electronic-marketing rules. You may opt out of direct marketing at any time.

The ICO states that individuals have an absolute right to object to their personal information being used for direct marketing. We respect that right and honour applicable communication preferences.

Security and your rights

We use appropriate technical and organisational safeguards intended to protect personal information against unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration, loss or misuse. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed to be completely secure, but we continually review the safeguards applied to GSI systems and infrastructure.

Depending on the circumstances, UK data-protection law may give you rights to request access to personal information we hold about you; correct inaccurate or incomplete information; request deletion of information; restrict or object to certain processing; request portability of applicable information; and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. Requests may be sent to legal@gsi.stonemaven.co.uk

GSI Membership

Nature of the network

GSI is a private, invite-only professional network. Membership provides access to a network through which research, expertise, information, introductions and selected opportunities may be shared. Membership is not employment and does not create an employment, recruitment, agency, partnership, joint venture, fiduciary or representative relationship between GSI and any member.

Invitations and access

Membership is personal and non-transferable. An invitation does not create an automatic or permanent right of access to GSI. We may accept, decline, suspend or withdraw membership or portal access where reasonably necessary to protect the network, its members, its systems or its legitimate interests. Access credentials must not be shared with another person.

Member information and introductions

Members remain responsible for information they provide to GSI and should ensure that it is reasonably accurate and current. Information supplied by one member about another person should only be provided where the member has a legitimate basis to share it. GSI may facilitate introductions where there may be a relevant professional reason to connect, but an introduction does not automatically constitute a recommendation or endorsement, verification of claims or credentials, an agency relationship, a recruitment service, investment advice, or a guarantee that any relationship, transaction or opportunity will proceed. Recipients remain responsible for their own assessment and due diligence.

Conduct

Members must use GSI and its systems lawfully and professionally. Members must not misuse GSI information, impersonate another person, interfere with GSI systems, scrape or systematically extract network information, distribute malicious material, or use access to the network for unlawful purposes. We may restrict access where these requirements are breached.

Confidential information

Information made available through GSI should not automatically be assumed to be confidential unless it is identified as confidential or the circumstances clearly indicate that confidentiality applies. Where information is expressly provided on a confidential basis, recipients should not disclose or use it outside its intended purpose without permission. Separate confidentiality arrangements may apply to particular projects, committees, transactions or discussions.

Investment and Financial Services Disclosure

Professional information only

GSI is a professional information and relationship network. It is not intended to operate as an investment adviser, investment manager, broker, dealer, placement agent or regulated investment platform. Unless expressly stated otherwise, GSI and Stone Maven UK Limited are not currently authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (“FCA”) to provide regulated investment services.

No investment advice

Nothing published on the public GSI website constitutes investment, financial, legal or tax advice; a personal investment recommendation; an offer to buy or sell an investment; or an invitation or inducement to engage in investment activity. Information concerning companies, investors, markets, transactions or opportunities may be shared within the network for general information, research and professional-networking purposes. GSI’s involvement in an introduction does not itself represent a recommendation, endorsement or assessment of the merits of an investment. Where a communication constitutes a financial promotion for the purposes of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000, it will only be communicated where permitted by applicable law, including where an appropriate approval or exemption applies. GSI will not knowingly undertake a regulated activity requiring FCA authorisation unless the relevant authorisation or lawful exemption is in place.

Website Terms

The GSI website and its content are provided for general information. We take reasonable care over the information we publish but do not guarantee that all information will always be complete, accurate or current. Nothing on the website should be relied upon as professional, legal, financial, investment or tax advice. Links to third-party websites are provided for convenience or reference, and GSI is not responsible for their content, security or availability. Unless otherwise stated, GSI branding, original written material, design elements and other proprietary content may not be reproduced or commercially exploited without permission. We may modify, suspend or discontinue parts of the website or network from time to time.

Cookies and changes to these terms

GSI may use cookies or similar technologies that are necessary for operation, security and functionality of the website. Where non-essential analytics, advertising or similar technologies are introduced, we will provide appropriate information and obtain consent where required by law. We may update this Legal page from time to time to reflect changes to GSI, our technology, our practices or applicable law. The latest version will always be identified by the Last updated date at the top of this page.
